The Next Generation of Computing Professionals

The life of an Undergraduate in CSE

The Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) Department is made up of approximately 400 undergraduates, half in computer science and half in computer engineering. Class sizes range from around 80 students in the beginning courses, taught by regular faculty, not graduate teaching assistants, to as few as a dozen students in upper-level elective courses. These smaller class sizes provide students with the opportunity to work more closely with faculty.

The CSE Department is also home to the J.D. Edwards Honors Program students who major in Computer Science or Computer Engineering. This nationally-recognized program is a unique opportunity that provides students with a combination of computing fundamentals and business knowledge to be utilized for enterprise information and software systems.

Undergraduate Students at the Welcome Back Picnic

CSE at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln is dedicated to opening new doors and exposing students of all ages to the exciting and challenging world of Computing in order to create tomorrow’s technology leaders. We work toward this goal by sharing our passion for learning and technology with a variety of audiences through Department sponsored activities and events. Outreach activities encourage and facilitate the interaction of our CSE Faculty and students with high school students, students at other universities, and industry members in Lincoln, throughout the state of Nebraska, and across the nation. Student participation is encouraged in events held throughout the year including:

  • ACM Programming Contest
  • CSE Day
  • Lincoln Bright Lights
